Hi,

There has been a very small biodiverse farming community near Be'er Sheva for at least 25 years. Kfar Rafael is a small village where mentally and physically disabled people live and work and are cared for and they have been farming there using traditional organic methods for as long as I have known about them.

@ Brian - the Meditteranean was naturally dammed a few million years ago, and it lead to excessive salination (which killed or drove off all marine life) and then the total drying of the Med. Damming the Gibraltar Straits is not an option - particularly as it is the major shipping route for all Southern European and North African Countries.

Do you think that in our life time we will see a dam built in the Strait of Gibraltar to stop rising sea levels in the Mediterranean? The Strait is only 14.2km across so it is tecnhically feasible.

The Mediterranean was naturally dammed across the Strait in a previous ice age.

Does the Russian or Ex-Soviet immigrant population hold as a bloc any clear opinions with regards to climate or energy issues?

Thanks, Lucy, for a really informative survey/ summary/ introduction. It's interesting as usual to think about how framing climate change as an environmental issue limits its reception (the point George often makes). Would framing the changes that are going to happen as security issues/ resource issues/ economic issues change the way Israelis respond and react personally and politically?

Ms. Michael's insights are refreshing. This has important ramifications for how the Israeli environmental movement can address this issue. Thank you!

This is the first article I've seen that gave an overall view of climate change attitudes in Israel and the surprising lack of effort in the use of renewable resources.
